Key points
- A domestic boiler service with us costs £105 + VAT (£126) in BR postcodes, £120 + VAT (£144) in SE postcodes and £130 + VAT (£156) in SW, CR and DA postcodes.
- Services carried out between 1 November and 1 March carry an extra £15 + VAT, so booking before November saves you £18.
- A gas boiler should be serviced once a year, and most manufacturers make an annual service a condition of their warranty.
Our boiler service prices by postcode
We price by postcode area rather than giving a single London-wide figure, so you know exactly what you’ll pay before we arrive. These are our current prices, excluding VAT at the standard 20% rate:
| Service | BR | SE | SW, CR & DA |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic boiler service | £105 | £120 | £130 |
| Landlord gas safety inspection | £105 | £120 | £130 |
| Landlord inspection + boiler service | £155 | £175 | £205 |
Including VAT, a standard domestic service works out at £126 in BR postcodes, £144 in SE and £156 in SW, CR and DA. Our full list, including commercial boilers and warm air units, is on our Prices page.
Why the price depends on your postcode
The work is the same wherever you are; what changes is getting to you. We’re based in Shortlands, so BR postcodes are closest. A handful of postcodes carry a further £25 + VAT surcharge because of increasing road traffic and local government traffic schemes: BR8, SE1, SE2, SE3, SE5, SE7, SE8, SE10, SE11, SE16, SE17, SE18, SE28, SW4, SW8, SW9, SW11, SW12, SW17, SW18 and SW19.
The winter surcharge, and how to avoid it
Any appliance serviced between 1 November and 1 March is charged an extra £15 + VAT (£18 including VAT) on top of the standard rates.
The easy way round it is to book in September or October. Your boiler gets checked before the cold weather, when a fault is an inconvenience rather than an emergency. Your next service then falls due at the same time of year.
What’s included in a boiler service
Every service we carry out covers:
- A visual inspection of the boiler and its flue.
- Testing for gas leaks at the appliance and checking the gas pressure.
- Inspecting and cleaning key components.
- Checking the safety devices, controls and seals.
- Efficiency and performance checks.
- A full service certificate for your records.
If we find something that needs more than a service, such as a worn part, we’ll explain what it is. As with all our work, you’ll know the cost before any further work starts. See how our fixed pricing works.
How often should a boiler be serviced?
Once a year. The Health and Safety Executive advises that gas appliances are serviced at least annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer. A badly maintained appliance can produce carbon monoxide, which you can’t see or smell (see our guide to carbon monoxide warning signs).
There’s a financial reason too. Manufacturers such as Vaillant make an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer, recorded in the boiler’s Benchmark logbook, a condition of their extended guarantees. Skip a year and you could lose cover worth far more than the cost of the service.
Booking and paying
Bookings are made by email, and payment is taken when you book. If you need to cancel, please give us 24 hours’ notice, otherwise a £35 + VAT cancellation fee applies. Once you’re booked in, we send a reminder each year when your next service is due.
